Testing & Results
Test System:
· Dell Inspiron 1520
· 15.4" Widescreen
· Intel Core 2 Duo, T7300 @2.0Ghz
· 2GB 667Mhz DDR2 RAM
· Nvidia 8600M Graphics Card
All temperatures were recorded using the built in Dell system monitor. All temperatures were recorded on the same desk, at the same ambient temperature. Load temperatures were calculated after a 15 minute Prime 95 stress test.
Without Pad
Idle: 53ºC
Load: 97ºC
With Pad
Idle: 49ºC
Load: 95ºC
As you can see, the pad did make a difference in temperatures, but it was not a major difference. The biggest benefit of this pad is simply the angle it creates. It is much easier to see the screen and type when using this stand.
There was a noticeable change in temperature; however, it was not a major change. This stand might perform better with a smaller laptop, but we do not have anything smaller to test with. I was impressed with the build quality, and the design of this stand though
Pros
· Looks good
· Slight decrease in temperature
· Good viewing angle
· More USB ports available
Cons
· Doesn’t work well with laptops 15.4" or bigger
· Laptop slides easily on the surface
All things considered, I give this cooler an 8/10. While the cooling performance is lacking, the overall functionality is still there. Additional USB ports, as well as a better viewing angle are something all laptop owners desire and the Choiix C-HL01- provides this.
